Importance of Mina in Islam and History of Pebbles
There are different rituals present in Hajj and Umrah that have their own significance and importance in Islam. One of the most important rituals in Hajj is throwing pebbles on the evils. Mina is the point in Makkah where the pilgrims execute this ritual of stoning the evils. This point is approximately seven kilometers and is located in the eastern direction of Makkah. A lot of pilgrims visit the Mina point during their Umrah visit to Makkah as r ziarat of various historical places in the city. Mina is actually opened during the Hajj days when pilgrims have to fulfill the execution of the Hajj.
The religious
obligation of Hajj has a number of rituals that have to be executed according
to a specific sequence according to the teachings of Islam. After performing
Tawaf, the pilgrims head on towards the Mina point for the next ritual. Some
people go by walking or some take the help of shuttle busses to reach the
destination. People spend their tie there and offer prayers to attain a vast
range of rewards from Allah Almighty.
Stoning of
Devils at Mina
The pilgrims go
for offering Rami which is also known as stoning the pebbles. This ritual is
executed on the third day of Hajj. The pilgrims are required to collect the
stones one day before the performance of the ritual. Then the three pillars
that are placed in Mina, are stoned as per fulfilling the ritual of Hajj. The
three pillars of devils also have their specific names. The largest pillar of
the devil is called Jamarat Al-Aqaba. The other in middle is known as Jamarat
Al-Wusta. The last and final pillar of the devil is referred to as Jamarat
Al-Sughra which is the smallest one in all.
History of
the Ritual
The specific
ritual of Hajj relates back to the history when Satan tried to influence
Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to disobey the order of Allah Almighty by sacrificing his
son Prophet Ismail (AS). The stoning of pillars is referred in a reaction to
rejecting Satan’s command. Allah Almighty tested Prophet Ibrahim for his faith
and belief in Allah. This pillar of Hajj is somehow the most dangerous one and
on the other hand, it has a great significance in Islam. After this ritual, the
pilgrims head towards the sacrificing of animals and distribute the meat to
deserving people who are poor and neglected.
